Frequently asked Questions
What is the difference between Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga?
I teach 3 styles of Yoga, all my classes begin with a warm up, main section and relaxation and all include focus on breath work (pranayama).a
Hatha Yoga is where postures/ positions are generally held for a few minutes with deep breathing.
In these classes I also introduce a theme focusing on a specific area of the body, or aspect of Yogic philosophy.
One of the main aims of this system of Yoga is balance and connection of mind, body and spirit.
Kundalini Yoga is taught using Kriyas specific sets of exercises and meditations, which have a certain effect on your state of mind, energy levels, organ functioning, nervous system or glandular functioning.
The Kriya and focus of the class is different each week. Some postures are held and similar to Hatha Yoga but often the postures are dynamic (moving) and incorporate a certain way of breathing and or a mantra (chant). Most of the movements tend to be quite easy to pick up (compared with Hatha postures) but the challenge is often in keeping them going!
One of the main aims of Kundalini Yoga is awareness- helping you to raise your thoughts beyond the day to day worries and concerns and open to a higher level of awareness and connection.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga where we move from one posture to the next in a fluid sequence whilst staying connected to the breath.
The way I teach it we also hold postures for some time – there are fewer breaks/ rest periods than in Hatha Yoga so it feels more like a work out but it is in fact a meditative workout as we focus on the breath. This form of Yoga can be very rewarding as you can see improvements more quickly/ find yourself moving with more ease in to more challenging postures.
It can also improve your general fitness and help support any other sports you do.
If you are a complete beginner you may like to start with Hatha Yoga for a few months until you are familiar with the basic postures.
Do you provide mats and equipment?
What should I wear/ bring with me?
Wear comfortable loose clothing you can move and stretch in. It also best to bring layers you can take off as you get warm and put on for the relaxation at the end. Bring a bottle of water with you as well to drink after the class
Can I attend classes as a beginner?
Yes – I am not planning to run beginners courses at the moment but most classes are mixed ability and many beginners join these classes.
I always try to offer of clear explanations and options/ modifications so that everyone can go at their own pace.
There are two specific beginners classes available:
One on a Wednesday Morning at 10am which is aimed at those who would like a very slow paced class and perhaps have injuries/ recovering from illness which needs to be taken into account.
The other is a Thursday evening beginners Kundalini Yoga class in which I aim to offer more detailed explanations and shorter times on the exercises where necessary
How do I know which classes are on/ where they are?
Is there parking at the venues?
How do I book a class pass?
Class passes cannot be purchased in isolation.
You need to select at least one class to attend, so firstly select the class you want to attend by clicking on it (it will then be highlighted Yellow but is not yet added to your basket).
To add it to your basket click on the blue select button next to “Drop In”. ( don’t’ worry that it seems you are booking a drop in ticket for £11 this will be updated later).
When you book your class pass you can opt to book all 5 or 10 classes in the same booking if you know which class you want to come to in advance.
If you want to select all your classes now you can do this by repeating the above process or you can book just your first class but you must book at least one class.
Step 2 :
When you have selected the classes you want to attend, then go underneath the Drop in selection and you will see a sentence that reads Classes can also be booked with a “Class Pass” click on class pass.
A new page will come up with the two class pass options ( 5 or 10) click the blue button to select the class pass you want.
This will then be added your basket (shown on the top right of the screen.
Click view selections
Now you will be able to see your basket and it will show the price of the class pass and any drop in tickets the price will be shown crossed out/ deducted from the price of the class pass.
Keep following the steps to payment and you will receive email confirmation of your booking/ class pass purchase.
Do I need to book the class or can I just turn up?
How soon before a class should I book?
This is up to you however please note that if there are no bookings for a class an hour before the class is due to start I may cancel it and it will be removed from the system.
It is best therefore if you can to book in advance so I have an idea of how many people are coming
Can I cancel/ transfer my booking?
Yes you can do this ( see last question) please note this is something you need to do online.
If you are transferring a class and you have a class pass you can only transfer up until your class pass expiry date.
Do I have to pay online?
At the moment you don’t have to pay online- when you book you can tick a box that says ‘pay offline’ and pay me in cash.
It is much easier for me though if you can pay online. The payments are through stripe so are verified and safe to use.
After I have booked a class pass do I just attend the classes I want to and you will update the system?
No. You still need to book each class you attend.
Make sure you are logged in- choose drop in ticket for the class/ classes you would like to attend and the system will then automatically take this off your class pass..
If I am not coming to a class do I have to cancel it?
Yes. You do need to cancel – you do this online by going into your booking and clicking cancel/change ticket .
If you have already paid you don’t loose the payment, you can transfer the ticket simply choose from the drop down menu as to which alternative class you would like to attend.
How do I know my booking history/ when my class pass expires/ how many classes I have used on my class pass?
Go to your login (top left hand corner of the screen) and you will be able to see your profile/ update your details and view your class pass information.
The system is asking me to pay for a class I’m trying to book but I think I still have some left on my class pass, what should I do?
Can I have an extension on my class pass?
There are no extensions on class passes, the reason you are getting a discount on classes when you book a class pass if because you are committing to come regularly.
You do get 6 weeks to use 5 classes and 12 weeks to use 10 classes so there is already some leeway in case you are ill/ on holiday/ can’t get to a class.
Remember you can also use your class pass on any classes I run (there are quite a few to choose from over the week)
The only exception on class pass extensions is if I have not run a class or cancelled a class- this is quite rare but I don’t usually run classes on bank holidays/ between Christmas and New Year.
To get an extension in this case please email me letting me know you class pass expire date, and which class I cancelled that you would have attended and which class you would like to attend instead.
